Matravers School has received a significant investment by Wiltshire Council to improve its Westbury campus.
The investment will fund a number of projects providing state-of-the-art facilities allowing additional courses, and upgrading of school buildings.
The new facilities will include a new computer and technology centre; new catering facilities; a hair and beauty salon; a horticulture centre and a multi-purpose fitness suite.
Dr Simon Riding, headteacher commented, “These are exciting times for Matravers School with our rapidly expanding horizons. We seek to provide a diverse range of opportunities for our students through our facilities.
“Whilst we all acknowledge that buildings alone don’t deliver outstanding education, we are clear that these enhancements to our facilities will make a substantial difference to both our current students and the significant number of students joining us in Year 7 and Year 12 next year.”
The new facilities include:
• Provision for a regional ‘Teaching Kitchen’ to provide state-of-the-art catering facilitates for both Level 2 (GCSE) and Level 3 (Post-16) qualifications from September 2014
• Provision for a Vocational Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre to support a range of vocational courses across the school;
• Provision for a Hair & Beauty Salon to deliver both Level 2 (GCSE) and Level 3 (Post-16) qualifications from September 2014;
• Provision for an on-site Horticulture Centre to deliver bespoke Horticultural Qualifications across the school;
• Provision of a state-of-the-art multi-purpose fitness suite.
Further funding has also been provided to deliver general upgrades across the site, including the complete redecoration and improvement of a number of blocks.
Guy Davies, Chair of Governors commented, “We welcome this continued support from Wiltshire Council which is helping us to upgrade our facilities. Our site ranges in date from some very old buildings alongside more modern ones. Any opportunity to upgrade our facilities for the benefit of our students will always be taken.”
