Matravers GCSE students celebrate their results
Matravers GCSE students celebrate their results

STUDENTS and staff at Matravers School celebrated this month after their A-level, AS-level and BTEC grades and pass rates continued to improve.

The school pass rate has risen to 99.4% and the proportion of students receiving the top grades has improved again.

The average points score per student has also increased, and many students are now looking forward to starting courses at universities.

Top A-level students this year were Rob Morris who achieved A*AAA and Jake Kneller who gained A* A*B. Josie Frayling received A*A C and Adam Osborne secured A*BB with another A* in his extended project.

Top BTEC students were Jackie Munro, Bronte Cavalla and Chloe Timbrell, who all achieved double starred distinctions in travel and tourism. Jemma Munro achieved an A* in A-level psychology and a starred distinction in BTEC business studies.

At AS-level Jessica Holland achieved 5 A grades; Gemma Sawyer and Andrew Wild both received 4 A grades and Alistair Blance gained 3 A grades.

A-level subjects that performed particularly well were textiles and dance, where all students achieved A*-B. In geology, maths, further maths, and photography, the majority of students gained A*-B grades.

83% of students gained A*-B grades in their extended projects, and several other subjects exceeded the national average for A*-C grades.

Level 3 BTEC results were also a credit to the school; all students taking travel and tourism secured a double distinction or better, and in health and social care all students achieved a starred distinction. In all, 78% of Level 3 BTEC students gained a distinction.

The school said, “Congratulations to the sixth form students and staff of Matravers on another successful year.

“Matravers Sixth Form goes from strength to strength and has a new director from September, Mr Ian Browning.”

Results at GCSE

Matravers School has also once again shown significant improvement at GCSE with 52% achieving 5A*-C grades including maths and English.

Highlights also include improvements in A/A* performance, A*-C performance and progress rates in maths were significant.

Headteacher Simon Riding said, “We are delighted at another step forward for the school. These results have enabled our students to gain places at our own sixth form for September.

“Individual success stories include: Jessica Scragg (9 A/A*); Hannah Suter (7A/A*); Ryan Hull (7 A/A*); Georgia Ireland (7A/A*); Keira Harding (7A/A*); and Bertie Gmaj (7A/A*).

“I am sure you will join me in warmly congratulating the students for their dedication and commitment and their teachers for all their hard work.”
