MATRAVERS School welcomed Angus Macpherson, Police and Crime Commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon, to hear talks on child sexual exploitation as part of their PSHE programme.
Matravers School said, “As part of our superb PSHE programme we aim to ensure that all students understand how to succeed and thrive within the modern world. Part of this is supporting students to understand risks and dangers around criminal and child sexual exploitation.”
Angus Macpherson, police and crime commissioner for Wiltshire and Swindon said, “I have long felt that schools have a vitally important role to play in preparing young people for life – and not just for exams.
“The modern world offers a wealth of opportunities for young people, but it also presents risks and dangers that people of my generation didn’t have to contend with.
“I was delighted to visit Matravers School and to sit in on a session for year 9 and 10 students on child sexual exploitation. It was expertly led by PCSO, Al Byrne, who provided his audience with really helpful pointers – and some difficult messages – but with a light touch where possible.
“I had a good conversation with headteacher, Dr Simon Riding, and assistant headteacher, Tom Phillips, about the pressures facing the young generation. I was very encouraged that Dr Riding and his team believe in education in the round.”
Dr Riding, headteacher commented, “This aspect of our work is vitally important to help our students become well-rounded and grounded individuals, ready for life in modern Britain. We draw on the expertise of the police to help us achieve our aims of keeping all children safe.”
