Colleagues at Morrisons Westbury are preparing to blast off for their next fundraising challenge – which they hope will take them all the way to the moon.
The store on Edward Street has been challenged to travel 760 km this August as part of the national ‘Morrisons to the Moon’ challenge to raise money for the supermarket’s charity partner, Sue Ryder.
The distance can be covered either in or out of their store, but only using non-motorised methods such as swimming, walking and cycling. Across the country, stores are aiming to rack up a total distance of 384,400 km – the distance to the moon.
At Morrisons Westbury, staff are hosting a treadmill and cross trainer to cover some miles in the foyer between 28th – 31st August. As well as this, there will be a staff fancy dress day, a ‘Design a Spaceship’ competition for children and a space-themed quiz with prizes available. Store manager, Josh Davies, has also volunteered to dress as an alien on Bank Holiday Monday if they can raise £300 by 29th August.
The store’s community champion Lisa Litterick said, “We’re looking forward to our ‘Morrisons to the Moon’ challenge and we hope our customers will enjoy all the activities we have in store. We’ve already raised £1,621 as a store so far this year for Sue Ryder, thanks to the generosity of our fantastic customers and colleagues, and we’re aiming to raise at least £500 through Morrisons to the Moon – as well as burn off a few calories.
“Every penny raised through our partnership with Sue Ryder is going towards giving more people the best possible care in their final days and providing support for their families. It’s an incredible cause which we’re very proud to support.”
Money raised through the Morrisons Raise a Smile partnership with Sue Ryder is funding new community healthcare services, family support teams and Sue Ryder’s Online Community and Support (www. sueryder.org/support), giving people more choice and control over their care in their final days and ensuring their families receive the support they need.
