BRATTON Silver Band has launched a new initiative designed to teach children how to play brass instruments.
Bratton Brass Roots, a children’s beginners brass band, was launched at the beginning of October and so far 18 young people from the ages five to 13 have joined.
The initiative has been generously supported by grants from the Westbury Area Board and Westbury Lions Club and all the children have been able to take home a brass instrument to practise on.
Musical director of Bratton Brass Roots Lydia Hills said, “It is such a pleasure to see the enthusiasm and joy on the children’s faces as they begin their brass banding journey. We cannot thank the Westbury Area Board and Westbury Lions enough for believing in this project and supporting it the way they have done.
“The children are excited about learning to read music, play a brass instrument and be part of brass band in Wiltshire. Hopefully you may see the children out and about at Christmas time, doing what brass bands do best – playing carols!”
