A NEW community-driven arts exhibition, which documents Westbury Leigh in original artwork, photography, literature, artefacts, poetry and biographies, will be open to the public from next week.
‘Portrait of a Village: Westbury Leigh’ is the culmination of four years of hard work and research by local artist Lesley Longworth, in collaboration with poet and local historian, Lily Munday.
The exhibition is open to the public on Saturday 10th September, 10am to 6pm, at the Westbury Leigh Community Hall and Holy Saviour Church. Entrance is £2 per adult and £1 per child.
The organisers say, “Part of the exhibition is dedicated to our wonderful and diverse wildlife. There will also be exhibits celebrating post- war Westbury Leigh and its close connection with the armed forces. You are invited to embrace the 1940s and 1950s in your attire! There will be spot prizes for the best outfits.”
Many original portraits of local folk, including some of local health workers completed during the pandemic, and local wildlife will be on display, alongside works by local multimedia artist, Beatriz Acevedo. Local photographer, Barry Hill, will also be exhibiting, as well as poetry and historical literature by Lily Munday.
There will also be scheduled talks by local historians and residents including Andrew Field MBE and the organiser of the exhibition, Lesley Longworth.
There will be a shop on the day of the exhibition selling high quality prints, cards, photographs, retro sweets and items made by local artisans. Free activity sheets and raffle tickets will be available here too.
‘Portrait of a Village: Westbury Leigh’ will be at the Westbury Leigh Community Hall on Saturday 10th September, 10am to 6pm.
