DILTON Marsh Memorial Hall now has a new storage shed, with thanks to funding from Westbury Area Board and the help of four local volunteers.
After the numerous groups and clubs that use the facility became stuck for a solution to store their much-needed items such as toys and pantomime costumes, the Dilton Marsh Memorial Hall raised funds to build a new storage shed, with the help of funding from Westbury Area Board.
Clive Short, temporary chair of the hall committee said, “A brief update on our project to construct a new storage shed in the Memorial Hall garden, well, progress has been rapid and successful, despite the sudden onset of Arctic weather.
“Our team of four has battled on in sub-zero temperatures and howling winds and a torrent of dry powdery snow. It is such a bonus of having a team of skilled, experienced and dedicated volunteers.
“Allan Oakman is the team leader and he is ably supported by Fred Woodhouse and Peter Denton, all three of who know the ropes. Yours truly is the ‘gofer’, being on hand to fetch, carry, find, hold in place, adjust, check for alignment and generally being useful. Such has the endless demand for my services that I feel just as chuffed as the others with the overall achievement.
“And, just watching the others in action, I have learned innumerable skills to add to my own DIY library. This really has been a team effort, and all done with in-house expertise.
“Our thanks go out to Aaron Pearce of Mendip Developments for advice and odd bits of this and that which we either didn’t have or ran out of; to the proprietors of Jeffries & Woodhouse for providing the cladding at cost price; to our new Vicar, Caroline, who has kindly extended the period of storage for the pantomime scenery and costumes in the vicarage garage; to electrician Barry Nichols who has offered to install electricity in the new shed, and to the visitors to the site who have popped in to offer encouragement and support. In addition, we would like to thank the members of the Westbury Area Board, who gave us a grant towards the costs of construction.”
