A WESTBURY woman has been honoured with an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.
Mandy Hope, who works for the Ministry of Defence has won the prestigious award for public service, especially in support of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She has worked in the MOD for 26 years in different parts of the UK and is currently working as part of a joint civilian and military team, providing advice on the activities of defence and the military in the UK.
Part of her role involved working with other government departments, the armed forces and the Olympic committee in the planning of last year’s successful Olympic Games.
Mandy said, “It was very hard work over a couple of years but more successful that we ever imagined I think, and it was extremely gratifying to see the British public and international visitors respond so warmly to our military personnel. It was a lovely surprise, it was great to work with people from both the military and civilians in what was a fantastic event.
“Receiving the award is a real honour. You are very aware that many other people contributed to your receiving it and that is quite humbling. I’m very much looking forward to going to the Palace in due course.
“Everyone has been full of support since I found out. I find it embarrassing, but I am really pleased.”
