A local play area, which has been closed for 18 months following a spate of vandalism, is now open. Heywood Parish Council confirmed that the repair work has finally taken place at the Hawkeridge Park play area at the edge of Westbury, following a long delay.
Richard Culverhouse, clerk to Heywood Parish Council said in a statement, “I can now report that the repairs to the vandalised piece of equipment have now been completed and the playground is now open during the day. Thanks to SAAB Technologies for their generous sponsorship towards the repair.
“The cost of repairing the equipment was nearly £2,000 and SAAB were good enough to donate half of the amount. SAAB heard about the damages from one of our parish councillors and we’re lucky to have a local company that are willing to help in the way they have.”
Parents had taken to social media to complain about the park’s long-term closure.
The parish council say the reason repairs to the play area took so long was due to an issue with sourcing the right parts, but it is now fully open and available for children in the area to use.
