A NEW Post Office has opened in Dilton Marsh at the Fairfield Farm College.
The Post Office Local opened at the end of September and means residents can once again visit a branch in the village, for the first time since the shop on the High Street closed suddenly in February last year.
The Post Office is in the college’s shop and is open to the public seven days a week.
College vice-principal Debbie Farley said, “Customers so far have said they’re delighted to be able to send post and do their banking without having to travel into Westbury.
“Villagers wanted to reopen a Post Office after the previous one closed down, and the college was seen as the most suitable place to put it. We’re very keen to get more involved with the community, too, so it’s a win-win.
“The college’s shop is the only one in Dilton Marsh so we’re always looking at ways to improve our services. We’re a not-for-profit organisation, so the more visitors we have the more we can invest in the charity and the students’ education.”
The branch will let customers use nearly all Post Office services including sending letters and parcels, cash withdrawals, paying bills and transferring money. Foreign currency is available but must be ordered a day in advance. The counter is open from 9am to 4pm Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 4pm on Saturday, and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
Debbie added, “It has taken the college about 15 months to set this up and we’re excited to get going now! We’ve got two new counter staff for the Post Office and it’s been a steady start as they get trained up, but I definitely think the service will be popular.”
