DRIVERS using the Market Place are being warned to take notice of parking regulations after several motorists were issued with parking fines.
New residents have moved into 4 and 4a in the Market Place between the Old Town Hall, now Olympia takeaway and the empty building, previously The Lopes Arms, and they are trying to stop people parking in their parking space outside.
Previously, the building had been unoccupied for years and became an open space for visitors to park. However, the spaces are now required and are no longer available for public parking. A non-parking enforcement sign is clearly displayed on the premises, but motorists who have not realised, have been issued with a £100 fine. They are urging other motorists to avoid the area, so they aren’t faced with similar fines.
The residents who now own the parking spaces are interested in starting a small local business in the future, so will require these spaces for personal and business use. They are looking to continue the redevelopment of the Market Place following on from the council, who have recently improved the area by making better use of the open area.
There are other nearby car parks which can be used and Westbury Town Council has also recently agreed to continue the free parking period in the High Street car park, encouraging more visitors, located within a short walking distance to the Market Place.
