ALL Saints Church in Westbury has been granted £3,000 to buy a screen projector to improve its facilities for the community – and hopefully attract more people.
The application was presented to the Westbury Area Board this week by church warden Beth Thomas.
She said, “We are requesting part funding for a drop down screen for above the altar area of the church, and a projector which would enable us to have Covid-free services and increasing our facilities for Westbury in general, and it would welcome the community more widely into the church,” Beth told members.
Westbury Area Board vice- chair, cllr Suzanne Wickham asked, “Would groups wanting to use that be charged for it, or would it be free of charge?”
Beth replied, “We usually ask for a donation, or it’s fundraising for ourselves or another charity – we are very amenable, being a church.
“We aren’t looking to make a profit out of it or charge a hall hire fee, but we do have to cover our costs – like heating the hall in the winter as it gets very cold.”
Cllr Russell Hawker asked Beth to confirm that any activity the equipment was hired for would comply with the church’s own charitable aims.
Beth said, “Yes, we wouldn’t do anything to contravene our own charitable aims – we are looking at music, talks, theatrical events that we would like to host and better facilities for more things to happen.”
All members voted in favour of approving the grant.
