A RESIDENT of Cob Place in Leigh Park says parking on Camargue Road is a ‘nightmare’ and is seeking parking measures to be issued.
Jacqueline Richards said, “During the last year, parking has become a real problem on Camargue Road with vehicles from the garage workers, ad hoc vans and lorries, not merely parking for an hour or so but all day and in some cases, all night. Hence exiting Cob Place onto the main road has become a nightmare because of very poor visibility due to high sided vehicles and the speed at which traffic leaves the roundabout and bridge.
“We would suggest a twenty mile an hour limit be introduced and a parking restriction notice giving motorists say, 3 hours with no return.”
A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said: “When considering changes to local highways, we work with town and parish councils and community stakeholders on the local Community Area Transport Group to ensure any changes reflect the needs and priorities of local communities.
“A review of parking Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) has recently been carried out in Westbury, however we would urge anyone with concerns about local highways to first make contact with their local town and parish council. Any proposed TROs will also involve consultation with local residents.
“We regularly review speed limits in Wiltshire. We set local speed limits where drivers should adopt a speed which is different from the national speed limit because of local needs and considerations. Local speed limits can be reduced or increased, depending on the conditions and evidence. The Department for Transport has issued guidance on setting local speed limits on single and dual carriageway roads in urban and rural areas. Our criteria for setting the right limit for any road takes into account existing traffic speed, accident history, the amount of traffic, frequency of junctions, building development and amenities. Any changes to speed limits should be in accordance with the latest Department for Transport guidance.”
