WESTBURY woman, Anna Compton, will tackle the London Marathon raising money for the Stroke Association, after only starting running two years ago.
Anna, who is a member of the Westbury Running Group, will pound the streets of London on Sunday 28th April taking on the world famous 26.2 mile route. She will be running for the Stroke Association in memory of her mum who suffered a severe stroke in 2006.
Anna said, “Stroke has been very important to me since my lovely Mum had a stroke. As well as helping to care for her, I also began working for the Stroke Association so was coming into contact with stroke survivors and their families on a daily basis. I saw over and over again just how devastating stroke can be.
“Please help me to raise funds for this very important charity. I have been working on my training for some months now and all is going well and I promise you that on the day I will give it my all!”
Anna joined the Westbury Running Club around two years ago, running socially and building up her distance. Six months ago she applied and was accepted into the London Marathon when her attitude to running completely changed.
She has recently taken part in the Bath Half Marathon in March, running the 13-mile route in just over two hours.
Anna’s husband Rob said, “The last six months Anna has been totally dedicated to her running. She goes out for 20-mile runs on a Saturday morning whereas before she would have never have dreamed of doing that!
“Westbury Running Club have been tremendous in their support for Anna’s challenge, especially Michael Badger and Chris Demmery, who warrant a special mention for helping her in her training.”
