White Horse Country Park hosts leisure activities and events for all the family, with a children’s play area, a fishing lake, and a restaurant with stunning views of the White Horse and a family-friendly atmosphere.
And, contrary to what a lot of people think, the park is open to everyone; you do not have to be a member to come and enjoy the facilities.
“Whether you are looking to play golf, go fishing, bring the children to the play area or visit the restaurant, you can come and enjoy one of the best views in the whole of Wiltshire,” said manager Darren Galliers. “The park lies right under the White Horse and there can’t be many better views in the whole county.”
There is a brand new hand-built children’s play area to keep the youngsters entertained. It is a secure area that is only accessible through the club, giving parents reassurance that their children are safe whilst enjoying the free facility.
Darren and his team are also offering an extensively updated menu; serving lunches every day from 12pm-3pm and evening meals on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm-7.30pm.
There is also a carvery running on Sundays from 12-3pm. Enjoy three locally sourced meats, homemade Yorkshire puddings with chef Darren’s famous traditional gravy. Chefs can cater to all dietary needs and again, the restaurant is open to non-members.
The country park also host a number of events across the year. Upcoming events include a Royal Ascot Ladies Day on Thursday 20th June. The day includes an on-site bookie, canapes and Pimm’s on arrival, a cold fork buffet, plus a cream tea – all for £22.50 per person.
The Westbury Lions will also be bringing back their Donkey Derby event to the country park on Sunday 30th June.
“Take in the views of the Wiltshire countryside as you tee-off on our 9-hole golf course,” added Darren. “Home to Westbury Golf Club, the course runs on a pay and play all day scheme at just £16 Monday-Friday, £18 Saturday and Sunday, or take advantage of twilight hours after 4pm for just £11. Golf club membership is also available for £350
“We are also currently progressing with a project to increase the 9-hole into a full 18-hole course. Neighbouring the course is also our 24-hour accessible, floodlit driving range with 12 bays.”
If you want to come and see the facilities, a golf open day is being held on Saturday 22nd June with free 9-hole golf from 8am-4pm, a barbecue from 11am, bouncy castle and reduced driving range fees. There is also a £50 voucher towards membership available.
“If golf isn’t your sport, then try fishing! The country park boasts a well-stocked lake providing course angling of all levels. Whether it’s your first time fishing or if you are a keen carper, the lake can cater for all, recently restocked with carp and perch.
“The lake is open to non-members with day tickets available at £10 Monday-Friday or £15 Saturday-Sunday.”
There is also a bowls team which is housed at the country park. The White Horse County Park Blue Circle Bowls Club are always looking for new members including men, ladies, boys and girls of all ages and fitness levels. You can contact the team on 01373 300843 for more information.
