Matravers School was delighted to host ‘The Design Showcase’ event on Thursday 17th March to inspire the next generation of designers in collaboration with their feeder primary and junior schools.
The event included the Student Design Ambassadors from Matravers, Westbury Infants, Westbury Juniors, Westbury Leigh and Bitham Brook schools. These students were nominated by their teachers for being leaders of design at their schools.
Students came together to develop new skills covering all areas of Design Technology, looking at using design programmes to design banners and pennants, understand how to use resist techniques such as Tie dye to create t-shirts and how to construct willow structures. All skills will be used to create a carnival costume for a parade at the stunning Matravers ‘MFEST’ event in the summer.
Following on from this event Junior and Primary ambassadors will attend a Dragons Den event in July to present their ideas to a panel of judges who will award one school the title of ‘Top Matravers Carnival Designers of the year 2016’.
The day was a huge success for both students and staff who said it was amazing to work alongside their primary and junior colleagues and students and a truly rewarding day celebrating the importance of Design in the curriculum.
