CONCERNED about the state of Westbury Cemetery? Then a local campaigner is organising a clean-up and is looking for volunteers to help.
Rupert Lescott is assembling a band of green-fingered volunteers to clear weeds from overgrown graves at the cemetery on Bratton Road.
Rupert said, “I saw on Facebook that a few people were upset about the state of the graveyard. Wiltshire Council has since mown the grass so it’s not as bad, but I will be looking to do some weeding on the untended graves.
“Not all are maintained by family but people care that the cemetery is kept tidy for everyone. My approach is that we can do it ourselves.
“I run a similar group in Edington which helps with grass cutting and weeding, and I’m looking for a handful of volunteers – maybe eight or ten – in Westbury to help with this one.”
Rupert is still waiting for the thumbs-up from Wiltshire Council to do the work, but hopes it will be for a few hours sometime in the coming weeks.
He has a few volunteers on board already, but is looking for a few more who can bring some of their own tools, gloves, and heavy duty bin bags.
