A BROTHER and sister have been walking a mile a day during the school holidays to raise money for the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group – to thank them for the support they gave their grandmother whilst she was treated for cancer.
Theo White, aged 8, and his sister Rosie, aged 5, both pupils at Bitham Brook Primary School, have so far raised over £300 and are halfway through their challenge.
“Whilst watching Stand Up To Cancer, Theo asked if he could do something to help raise money,” explains Theo and Rosie’s mother, Hayley White. “He decided a daily walk would be good fun but it had to be a challenge. He roped in his little sister and together they came up with the idea of walking 30 miles in 30 days during the summer holidays.
“Little did Theo and Rosie know at the time that their granny had recently been diagnosed with stage 2b cervical cancer and was going through extensive daily treatment at the Royal United Hospital, Bath.
“Incredibly, the treatment worked and she is now cancer-free. Once she was given the all clear, the children were told about their granny’s cancer, the incredible journey she’d been on and the wonderful people who had helped care for her. Theo and Rosie decided they wanted to walk for their granny.
“After researching, they decided to raise money for The Bath Cancer Unit Support Group who rely on donations to improve cancer care and facilities in the oncology department at the Royal United Hospital.
“Theo and Rosie are now half-way through their 30-mile challenge. They started at the Westbury White Horse and even took their challenge on holiday, clocking up their miles in the Welsh countryside.”
