LOCAL people who need help with completing benefit forms, developing a CV, applying for a job or contacting government agencies, will be pleased to know that Crosspoint is still here to offer help and support.
The charity, now in its tenth year and based in the Market Place in Westbury, has been able to continue to provide most of its services during the recent lockdown, although in a different way than before the pandemic struck.
The team of volunteers is available by appointment for four sessions a week in the Market Place centre to help local people with a range of issues, and the centre also has computers, a printer and a scanner available.
“We offer a safe environment for our clients and volunteers” said Kevin Fairman, the chair of Crosspoint. “We have taken a number of measures to reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission. Unfortunately we cannot currently offer our usual drop-in service, but would hope to offer this again as soon as it is safe to do so.”
The counselling service is still available for local people who have challenges to their mental health, being provided remotely via video or phone where possible, and more funding has recently been secured from Westbury Town Council and the area board to allow the trained counsellors to provide a service to more clients.
Kevin adds, “We are delighted that we are continuing to provide space for the Westbury Food Project to pack and distribute food to those in need, and to work in partnership with representatives from the town and county council in meeting the needs of local people.”
