A WESTBURY artist’s work is being featured on Christmas cards in John Lewis and other stores and supermarkets around the country.
Greeting card company Woodmansterne was so impressed by Kevin Safe’s image of skaters in Bath, that they chose to use the image on their charity Christmas card in aid of Childline.
Kevin said, “I contacted Woodmansterne back in 2011 with an image of a few skater paintings that I produce for the galleries each year. They loved one of them so much they decided to use it as a charity Christmas card this year. They look great and it’s a thrill for me to see them in print form.
“I am hoping that if the Christmas cards sell well this year, that Woodmansterne might ask me to send more images that they may be able to use. My paintings are such a joy to paint and they seem to light up people’s faces where ever I show them!”
Kevin Safe paints contemporary landscapes of the stunning architecture and scenery across Wiltshire and the surrounding counties, but is best known for his skater paintings that are set in the city of Bath. He explains, “I saw people ice skating in Queen’s Square in Bath four years ago and was really inspired by seeing everyone enjoying themselves surrounded by the incredible Georgian buildings and the snow falling around them and I just couldn’t wait to get home and paint what I’d seen.
“That first skater painting seemed to capture people’s imaginations and bring back memories of skating and playing in the snow as a child. More and more people and galleries started asking for them and every Christmas everyone is waiting for the next series of skater paintings. I must admit, I love painting these winter scenes, and this year it is not only Bath inspired, but also Salisbury inspired. It’s the place where I grew up, so it’s bringing back memories of my own childhood with every snowflake I paint above the cathedral.”
As well as the Christmas cards, Kevin has a collection of paintings that are available to view and buy at galleries across the UK, including Bluestone Gallery in Devizes and O’Neils Gallery in Bath, as well as on his website www.kevinsafe.co.uk
He is also giving one lucky person the chance to win an exclusive signed print for free this Christmas. To be in the draw, simply ‘Like’ his Facebook page at http://www.face book.com/kevinsafeartist
