The end of the year provides a perfect opportunity to reflect on all the wonderful learning and exciting events that have happened at Westbury Infant School.
Nicky Newbury, deputy headteacher said, “The children have all experienced some fantastic visits and visitors across the past three months.
“Our reception classes visited the Victoria Art gallery in Bath and Brokerswood where they made super dens. The year 1 classes have visited a fire station as part of their Great Fire of London topic which was very exciting, especially actually travelling in a fire engine! Our year 2 children have been to the White Horse and flown kites that they had made, as well as visiting the ‘We the Curious’ museum in Bristol for a very hands-on experience.
“The school has welcomed many visitors to further enhance the children’s learning, such as the Life Bus which all the children thoroughly enjoyed, a dental nurse and an author visit, where the children met some of the felt characters in her books.
“We are very lucky to have such an active school council who were busy raising funds with a popcorn sale and later, a cake sale for Children in Need. They are becoming quite effective entrepreneurs. The school became spotacular during Children in Need and wore their spotty clothes, while raising an incredible £275.50 at the same time.
“Our school has ran many teacher-led clubs this past term, such as knitting, sports, board games, computing, library, Eco-warriors and choir to name a few. Every child is learning to play the ocarina and they play in an assembly on Tuesdays. Lots of children are taking them outside to practise during break and lunch times. Our breakfast and after-school club is becoming more popular and the children enjoyed the many activities that are planned, as well as a scrummy snack.
“In October, we opened our beautiful Enchanted Library which the children (and adults alike) certainly love visiting. It has all the magic ingredients to instil a real love of reading and books – we are very proud of it!
“I am sure that the new year will provide more exciting learning opportunities and experiences for our children across the curriculum and we look forward to continue on our learning journey at Westbury Infant School.”
