WESTBURY Leg Club got off to a strong start this month, with 20 people attending the first event at the Grassacres Hall.
The Leg Club is part of a national scheme to help people who suffer from venous leg ulceration. Grassacres Hall on Eden Vale Road hosts a drop-in club every Monday from 9.00am–12.00pm.
Councillor Sue Ezra, who officially opened the club said, “We welcomed 20 people to our first session, and we want to get the word out that this service is free under the National Health Service, and it can also help with isolated older people.”
The Leg Club is based on an award-winning model founded by former district nurse Ellie Lindsay. Evidence shows Leg Clubs, which operate in a non-medical setting, lead to improved healing rates by encouraging members to become involved in their care.
