UK Parliament Week is an annual festival that aims to engage school children from across the UK with Parliament and explores what it means to them.
In November, KS2 children took part in lots of different activities to learn more about Parliament and democracy. Some children learnt about Guy Fawkes and how the events that took place linked to Parliament, some explored why the Magna Carta was so important in the development of electoral reform and democratic government in England whilst others took part in discussions around laws and voting and were quizzed on their knowledge.
Children created engaging and lively opportunities for developing debating skills and key democratic concepts were introduced. Miss Dunbar, Class Teacher and organiser for this school event said, “It has been a really interesting topic for the children and the discussion has really proved how engaged our pupils are with the world in which they live.”
