WESTBURY mayor, cllr David Windess has started training for the Bath Half Marathon, which he will run to raise funds for one of his Mayor’s charities.
Cllr Windess helped judge a competition at the Bath Cats and Dogs Home open day earlier this year, and it was during the course of this day that he was persuaded to take on the half marathon. He is pleased with his first five weeks of training and has already lost a stone and a half in that time.
He said, “It’s going to be very hard work for me to do this half marathon as I am built for comfort not speed, but it’s nothing compared to the hard work that the staff of Bath Cats and Dogs do day in and day out. It costs a vast amount of money to look after these unwanted or mistreated animals each year so please help me to raise as much as I can to help this wonderful charity.
“I’ve got a trainer, Tracy Hyde, who is part of the Westbury Running Club. Her plan is for me to go out three times a week.
“I am confident I will do it.”
The Bath Half Marathon takes place on 2nd March 2014, and covers a distance of 13.1 miles.
Cllr Windess added, “I’ve been told the Bath Half involves a lot of hills. I’m hoping it’s going down them!”
