The latest model railway show organised by the West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group was held on Saturday 7th November at the Paragon Hall in Haynes Road, Westbury.
In spite of the awful autumnal weather in the morning, altogether 272 railway enthusiasts attended the show, where they were entertained by a wide range of model railway and associated modelling subjects, providing interest for everyone no matter what the level of their skill.
Altogether there were 12 layouts on show to delight and interest, together with demonstrators and traders. Keith Wareham attended with his large 0 Gauge test track for visitors to the show to run their locomotives and stock. For vintage enthusiasts there was a Hornby 0 gauge and Hornby Dublo layouts, showing trains sets of the 1940’s and 50’s.
The star of the show was the layout depicting Sydney Gardens in Bath during the latter half of the twentieth century attracting a great deal of interest.
Dovington Camp depicted a military railway in the 1990’s and showed the Queen presenting colours to the regiment. Coming right up to date, The Python Branch showed how to operate a model railway from mobile phones.
Devil’s Bridge in North West Wales was a beautifully scenic narrow gauge layout in 009 scale.
Further modelling demonstrations of weathering loco building and white metal soldering were at the show.
On the stage for the young at heart, was a Scalextric Layout where invited visitors drove the cars.
The West Wiltshire Gauge 0 Group were pleased with the number of visitors who attended the show and the time they stayed to fully enjoy what was on offer at the show. They were delighted too that lots families visited, including mums and dads, children and their grand parents.
Show organiser Rod Towler reported, “There was a wide range of tasty and enticing refreshments for sale and I would like to thank Angela, Sue, Melony and Paul for all their hard work looking after us all.
“I would also like to thank all those who kindly donated prizes for the raffle, particularly Dave Simpson of The Gas Cupboard Model Shop of Trowbridge.
“My grateful thanks also to Cynthia and the lovely people at the Westbury Labour Club for all their help without which the show would not have run as smoothly as it did.”
