Westbury Shed has enjoyed another successful year, with an increase in new members and wider interest about the club from within the community and further afield.
Chairman, Fred Beckett, reported that the club was visited by a group of health professionals from Singapore who were researching the health effects for individuals of engagement with community groups.
The club says, “There have been requests from organisations and individuals within the town and villages for help with repairs and construction. These have included repairs to a family bench and notice boards for church and parish councils all of which have been supported by generous donations of tools from local residents and financial contribution from Imperial Charity and individuals.
“Members of the Shed are also pleased to support our local young people, Westbury Leos, in their wonderful work at the Quaker graveyard.
“Shed members have also been busy making items and growing produce for sale at local events; these have included Penleigh Pop-up Fun day, Corsley Show, Victoria Gardens’ auction where a handmade bench was donated to raise funds and towards the end of the year, the health fair and town Christmas event. Members were also honoured to lay a wreath at Remembrance Day event.
“Plans for Westbury Shed’s move to larger premises at the community hub are progressing well; members have worked to help clear the building and are grateful to the trustees for all the hard work involved in getting the project on track.
“Finally, in December, Westbury Shed was entered on to the Register of Charities, something members have been working towards over the last year, and which will enable access to alternative funding to strengthen and grow Westbury Shed for years to come.”
