THE Shed in Westbury is celebrating after being awarded a grant for £2,500 by the Westbury Area Board and £500 from the town council.
Dan Gmaj said, “With the £2,500 from the Area Board, the current plan is to build a characterful ‘ShedQuarters’ workshop on a plot kindly allocated to us for community use by Grassacres trustees.
“This will approximately double our available bench space without the requirement to pay an additional commercial rent. We have yet to decide if ‘workshop one’ will also continue when the new facility hopefully comes on-line in late summer 2017. What we do know, is the less our overheads, the more we can invest in the group.
“Numbers are increasing all the time and people often ask me what would happen if too many people joined? That’s a really great problem to which I reply… it’s hardly a problem at all really.
“We are delighted that the Area Board has been right alongside our efforts to bring the health and wellbeing of our community to the fore and this is still just the start. New ideas require new thinking to help re-establish pride in our community. Westbury is leading by example and our town should be justly proud.
“We were also delighted to receive a cheque for £500 from Westbury Town Council to help equip our workshop.
“This cash injection is perfect timing as we are just finishing off the workstations and worktops in our compact little space. In a week or so, with some more bench vices and a few other essentials, we will be ready to roll!”
