WESTBURY will light a beacon to mark the end of the centenary commemorations for World War 1 on Sunday 11th November. The ceremony will be part of the national ‘Battle’s Over’ beacon lighting event.
Westbury Town Council has recently been asked by the Queen’s pageant master, Bruno Peek, who is coordinating the beacon lighting on a national level, to light the Westbury Beacon on the White Horse hills for this special event on Sunday 11th November.
Lady Sarah Troughton, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire has also accepted an invitation from the town council to light the beacon. She will be joined by the Mayor and Mayoress of Westbury, along with other dignitaries, guests, members of the public and schoolchildren of Westbury.
The planning for this event is in the early stages and the town council will issue details and timings of the event, when available.
