WESTBURY Youth Rhinos have just returned from a nationwide tournament in the Isle of Wight where they finished fourth.
At the start of the year, Westbury Youth’s under 9 team began fundraising to raise money to take part in the 14th SCI Isle of Wight Mitre Ultimatch Cup 2019.
As well as bag packing at Morrisons and a fundraising 5k run at parkrun in Southwick, the team received invaluable sponsorship from Gooding Accounts Ltd and Westbury Lions. This meant that the team could travel to the competition and also receive a new kit to play in.
Scott Howse, coach of the Westbury Rhinos said, “We would like to thank Sam and his team at Gooding Accounts and Westbury Lions for sponsoring us on our Isle of Wight trip. It’s great for local businesses and organisations to get behind local clubs like ourselves, without their support things like this may not have been possible.
“The boys had a fantastic time away and were very thankful to both organisations when they popped up to training to meet them. They played football over Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th May and finished 4th out of 12 teams, which is really impressive for the boys. They are a great bunch of lads and I am very proud of their achievements so far.
“On the Sunday night we had a presentation evening to round off the trip, and the boys where presented with medals by celebrity guest, footballing legend, Kevin Davis formerly of Southampton and Bolton, which was a great ending to a fantastic weekend.”
Sam Gooding, of Gooding Accounts Ltd said, “I am really proud to be supporting another local side in Westbury Youth Rhinos, with a new playing kit for their tour of Isle of Wight and also their first cup final in the next couple of weeks.
“It was great to see how happy the lads were with the new shirts and especially having their own names on the back. It’s always a pleasure to give something back to the local community.
“Special mention to coaches Scott and Aaron who put so much time and effort into running the side, it’s a thankless task and all youth football coaches at Westbury Youth and beyond deserve a huge pat on the back for their effort.
