IN 2019 a Climate Emergency was acknowledged by Wiltshire Council, however Wiltshire Climate Alliance believe very few of the policies since then address this matter as an emergency.
The organisation report, “If the council that is elected for the following 4 years does not take more drastic action then the future of our young people and grandchildren will look very bleak.
“The local elections for Wiltshire Council will take place on 6th May 2021. This is our chance to vote in a council that takes the climate crisis seriously and everyone should be concerned. To help you decide how best to vote, Wiltshire Climate Alliance will be asking your prospective councilors to complete a survey that reflects a number of key climate and ecological issues important to local people.
“The questions will be on issues such as sustainable house planning and building, improving green spaces, planting trees, ensuring clean air zones, active travel schemes, waste recycling and investing in renewable energy.
“Our aim is to provide the communities of Wiltshire an informed understanding of the position of candidates on climate change matters.
“A summary of the results by ward will be published on our website. In the meantime, don’t forget to encourage your family and friends to register to vote so as we all use our democratic right to vote for a council that puts the Climate Emergency at the forefront of their decision making.
