A LOCAL woman is cutting off her hair to raise money for Bristol Children’s Hospital, who treated her great-niece two years ago.
Sarah Hurkett has been growing her hair long for over a year and will lose her locks at a special event to be hosted at Gossip Coffee & Whine, Palomino Place, on Friday 17th May – the 2nd anniversary of when her great-niece Amaya-Rose Rumbold had open-heart surgery at the age of five-weeks old.
Amaya-Rose, who is now 23-months old, was transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital weeks after she was born, after it was identified that she was having problems with her heart. Sarah explains, “They (Bristol Children’s Hospital) repaired three holes in her heart successfully. She is still continuing to have scans on a regular basis due to there still being a few unresolved mysteries within her heart. She may need to have further surgery in the future but all is well for the time being. She is such a tough little warrior and has been through so much already in her little life. Our heart warrior.”
As well as raising money for Bristol Children’s Hospital, Sarah will also be donating her hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity that provides real hair wigs to children that have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.
