WESTBURY Area Wellbeing Tai Chi group will be hosting a free taster event and a workshop this month to celebrate World Tai Chi Day and the success of their own organisation.
The group is now run by Jen Bravery at the Grassacres Hall and Church Hall in Westbury Leigh, but was set up a number of years ago by Kerry Eatwell.
Kerry said, “The meetings are very well attended and have a proven track record as being very beneficial to the wide range of ages that come along regularly.
“The light routine of gentle movements taken in a relaxing atmosphere leads to the participants alleviating the many results of old age, stress, lack of exercise, loss of balance, mental attitude, breathing, diabetes, plus other ailments.”
Westbury Area Wellbeing Tai Chi will be holding a free all-day event running from 9.30am to 4pm at the Laverton on Saturday 25th April, to celebrate World Tai Chi Day.
The event, held in association with a number of other town groups will have existing members on hand to offer information about tai chi, host trial sample sessions, and to demonstrate the advantages taking part can provide. There will also be a free workshop on Wednesday 22nd from 7-8pm where people can turn up and learn a few basic movements and try their hand in a real session.
Tai chi combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements. Originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China, tai chi is today practised around the world as a health-promoting exercise.
The Westbury Area Wellbeing Tai Chi sessions run on Wednesdays: from 10-11am at Grassacres Hall, and 2-3pm at Westbury Leigh Church Hall. Sessions are £3.50 per person.
