TALENT from the town’s young performers was on display as they battled for the title of Matravers’ Young Musician of the Year 2012.
Ryan White, who performed Dido’s ‘White Flag’, was crowned Young Musician of the Year at the concert on Wednesday 4th July. Winners of the other categories were Jessica Scott (junior section), Ben Precup (intermediate section), Shannon Harvey (senior section), and Hebe Mitchell (leavers), Lauren Medway and Joe Medway (ensemble). The concert was sponsored by the Lions Club of Westbury, and prizes were presented to the winners, while Lauren Medway received a bursary towards music lessons.
Music teacher Fran Andrews explained, “It’s an annual concert, where children audition for a place in the final. It’s sponsored by Westbury Lions so we can give them prizes. We had some brilliant performances, from years 7 through to 13.”
