YOUNG sailor, Nathan Clift, has completed his first triathlon challenge in just over an hour, raising £230 for the West Wilts Youth Sailing Association.
On Saturday 8th June, 11-year-old Nathan Clift took on a 200m swim, five mile cycle and one mile run to raise money for his youth sailing club to help them build their new clubhouse.
Nathan was cheered on at Westbury Swimming Pool by pupils from Bitham Brook (Nathan’s school) and supported by the staff. After a quick change into dry clothes, he then cycled over five miles around the town, accompanied by his dad and cheered on by his mum and sister at the three mile turn around point.
After jumping off his bike, and leaving his helmet with his sister Arabella and bike with mum Claire, Nathan then pounded the streets on his final leg; a one mile run. This then took him to the finish line at the sailing lake.
Claire Clift, Nathan’s mother said, “Nathan didn’t stop talking the entire distance! He was so happy to just keep going and think about all the support he has received. Nathan completed the event in just over an hour; one hour one minute and 32 seconds.
“Nathan was pleased with his time but for him, it was more about putting himself out there to raise funds, to help complete the new facilities for the sailing club.”
Nathan said, “I would like to say a huge thank you to Westbury Pool for setting aside a lane for me to swim uninterrupted and the great support on the day.
“Also thanks to my friends and teachers at Bitham Brook Primary School who offered encouragement and sponsorship for my event, to my family and to all other sponsors who boosted me by their generosity to help me succeed in my mission to complete my first triathlon.”
