Although coming away with a win, with the dominance they had up front, Westbury were deserving of a better score line.
Perhaps if passes had gone to hand better there could have been more tries. At least two tries went begging only for the ball to be knocked on at the last minute. That said, it was an away win, however it was hard work.
The first score came after five minutes when Simon Higgins slotted a penalty. 25 minutes had then passed when, from a lineout, the forwards marched up field with a controlled drive.
Centre, Dan Gould cut across close to his forwards and received the ball for him to weave his way to the try line. The conversion was missed.
Saracens replied 10 minutes later when they were able to ghost through a succession of missed tackles and poor Westbury alignment. The try was scored but they missed the conversion. Westbury came back straight away with a Higgins penalty 5 – 11 at half time.
The second half got under way but had to be stopped for 10 minutes when Westbury prop Daniel Haines sustained a head injury.
When the game did restart Westbury took a little time to get back into the match but stand-off Aaron Vaughan steadied the ship when he scored a try after a quick tap penalty. Higgins again bisected the posts for the extras.
The match then ebbed and flowed as both sides strove for the win but the defences of both sides held out and there was no addition to the score. This ended with a win for the visitors, but lots to work on in training.
Man of the match was shared between Aaron Vaughan (Backs) and Reece Ball (Forwards).
