A moment of magic by Keynsham striker Pat Davison was enough for his side to take the three points away from Westbury in this tight encounter at Meadow Lane.
Although there were very few chances due to both defences being on good form this was a very watchable encounter played in perfect conditions.
It took until the 14th minute for the first opportunity, which came the way of Kieron Adams after good play by Davison, but James Hounsell (who led his side very well) did excellently to deny the visiting player.
Westbury had their first shot 10 minutes later when Otis Young set up George Bendle with the latter shifting the ball onto his left foot and driving it wide of the target.
Play continued to be very cagey until Davison won the points for Town on 34 when he unleashed an unstoppable 30 yard strike that flew past Charlie Heydon. United’s keeper made a fine save just before half time to stop Sam Duggan’s 20 yarder.
The 2nd half followed a very similar pattern except Keynsham resorted to some particularly tough tackling in the closing stages (resulting in 5 yellow cards in quick succession) when Westbury upped their tempo.
Jamie Jordan’s set piece was headed onto the roof of the net by Jordan Lawrence then at the other end Jordan Pinder erred allowing Duggan to set up Kyle Box who was wasteful when well placed.
The closest United came to an equaliser came on 78 when Young struck a lovely free kick which rebounded off the crossbar! Aside from their rough tactics, the visitors also defended superbly to prevent Westbury from creating any clear cut chances and they almost doubled their lead late on but Marcus Brown fired over from 10 yards.
