YARNBROOK Chapel celebrates its 60th anniversary this month and to mark the occasion, a special service of thanksgiving will be held at the chapel on Saturday 3rd June.
The chapel was re-opened on May 31st 1957 having been closed previously due to services being poorly attended.
A Mr Herbert Doel bought the chapel when it was put up for auction for £300. He said he considered the Yarnbrook Chapel is a part of the village and a heritage of everyone who lives there.
Andrew Jones who has been Pastor at Yarnbrook Chapel since January 2016 said, “We are a friendly group of people who spend time in worship and learning for the Bible the word of God, each Sunday at 3pm. We also like to spend time together after each Sunday service with a cup of tea and cake. During the year we have had a Harvest Supper and a New Year meal. We also have other regular activities; a Friends and Neighbours Group which is a time of getting together in a more informal way and recently we have had history talks and a craft making afternoon.
“The chapel was given to the village as a place of worship for the people of Yarnbrook and the surrounding area. We want to continue that vision reminding the people of Yarnbrook we are here, firstly as a place of worship, but also the building which is well equipped, is also for available for hire.
“All are welcome to our thanksgiving service which will include a time looking back over the last 60 years. The speaker will be James Alsop who is pastor of a church in Melksham. The service will be followed by tea and we hope that will include the cutting of a celebration cake.
“There will also be a display of pictures and items from the past. We would like to hear from anyone who has attended the chapel in the past, possibly in the Sunday School, and would also welcome any photos or information we could copy and use for the display.
“So we as a church seek under God’s guidance to go forward, trusting that the Lord will bless the church where we seek to witness, reach out and preach the gospel to Yarnbrook and the surrounding area.”
The chapel will be also be holding its annual Ascension Day Service on Thursday 25th May at 7pm. The preacher will be Pastor Ben Midgley from North Bradley.
