A young Bishop Sutton team were the first team to take three points from United this season.
Westbury started well with Mark Robinson and Ricky Hulbert working hard up front to press the Bishop Sutton defence. For the first ten minutes Bishop Sutton could not get out of their own half, while Westbury had a couple of good chances, most notably a corner that was taken short and then delivered for Matt Jones to head over the bar.
From the ten minute point, Bishop Sutton had their first good spell of the game with a flurry of attacks. They looked as if they had been ordered to shoot on sight because their players were taking on the shot as soon as they got within 25 yards of Lewis Porter’s goal.
Westbury’s best chance came on the 25 minute mark; captain Dan Price headed clear a corner out to Robinson, and Robinson fed it to Ricky Hulbert who was racing past the defender. Hulbert arrived in the box with the ball at his feet and only the goal keeper to beat. He was slightly to the right of the goal and tried to give the keeper the eyes; he thought that the keeper thought that he was going to shoot across the front of him into the far post, so that is where he directed his stare. With his left foot he tried to finish at the near post, only for the keeper to anticipate correctly and stand his ground to save the shot. The first half ended nil-nil.
Westbury came out for the second half and again pinned Sutton into their own half. They created a couple of decent early chances. a controlled cross by Ricky Hulbert was only cleared as far as Jamie Jordan who dispatched a left foot shot. Jake Hiscocks twisted half the Sutton defence inside out when he received the ball approximately 25 yards out, shifted it to his right, faked the shot, shifted it left, faked the shot and then shifted it right again and unleashed a powerful low drive.
Sutton were now set up very deep and looking to breakaway with speed at every opportunity. Westbury were piling forward trying to get a goal. Sutton’s opening goal came on the 70 minute mark. Westbury had a corner which was cleared and Sutton were off on a breakaway counter attack. Their striker evaded the tackle and the Westbury defence could not race back in time for him to finish past Porter and make it 1-0. They scored their second in similar manner; Westbury were pushing for an equaliser and Sutton broke again on the 90 minute mark, to take the game 2-0 and the three points.
