Another top choir to visit Edington

The next concert in the Edington Arts series in the Priory Church is on Saturday 22nd June at 7.30pm, when one of the best mixed voice consorts to emerge in the last few years will perform a captivating programme of music, ancient and modern.

“SANSARA has been hailed as ‘the a capella sound of the future’ by none other than Peter Phillips, director of The Tallis Scholars,” say the organisers. “This exquisite and versatile group of musicians has already won the London International A Capella Choir Competition, and has released a CD which has been featured on BBC Radio 3’s The Choir, Breakfast and Essential Classics programmes.

“The concert in Edington is part of SANSARA’s Music of the Spires’ series, in which they perform music held in the wonderful libraries of Oxford University. Combining polyphony from the Renaissance with contemporary compositions, the programme includes works by John Taverner and Thomas Sheppard, and the Gloria, Credo, Sanctus & Benedictus and Agnus Dei from the ‘Missa Regali’ by Robert Fayrfax, considered one of the most influential composers in the reigns of Henry VII and Henry VIII.

“In contrast, they will also sing exciting pieces by the leading contemporary composers Judith Weir and Marco Galvani, the choir’s associate composer, whose ‘Tantum ergo’ was commissioned by the Edington Music Festival for the 60th festival in 2015.”
