A WESTBURY care company’s staff were thanked for their hard work during the pandemic when they were nominated to win a box of tasty treats from the town’s Secret Baker.
The prize was a morale boost for staff at Forget Me Not Care Ltd who have been working extra shifts and going “above and beyond” throughout the pandemic.
Thanking The Secret Baker through the White Horse News, Forget Me Not Care Ltd’s co-director Karen Williams said, “We won The Secret Baker’s weekly key worker competition, recognising the hard work and commitment my staff have been applying over this difficult time. It is very much appreciated and all staff need this morale boost as stress levels have been high.”
After the 24 cookies were delivered, Karen said, “The cookies were out of this world and very much enjoyed by the team. People like The Secret Baker are little angels, just like my Forget Me Not angels, sometimes unrecognised and I just wanted to shout out my appreciation.”
The care workers at the privately-owned company which was founded 15 years ago by former nurses Karen and Selina, have foregone holiday breaks since the Coronavirus outbreak, to cover their extra workload.
“They have been very stressed,” Karen said. “They are working above and beyond and have foregone holidays as they knew we would be even more busy, with having to cover when people have to self isolate etc. We are doing extra shopping etc and doing stuff that we’ve not done before for our clients. We’ve worked throughout. It’s been no different for us, if anything it’s more stressful – it’s been really hard.”
Karen said the company received “excellent” feedback with their nominations on Facebook, including from former employees.
The Secret Baker set up the weekly competition after being inundated with requests to donate biscuits to key workers. The Secret Baker told White Horse News, “I was approached by someone to ask if I would donate some biscuits for some key workers. I did and also sent some to the doctors’ surgery, as I have done a couple of times.
“Then I was inundated with people asking and as much as I would have loved to have done this for everyone, as a key worker working myself it was impossible, so I thought the best way to do this would be to run a competition every Thursday for key worker groups only and it would be drawn fairly with a random comment picker on a Sunday and delivered some time that week.”
