A VIRTUAL quiz night in Westbury boosted funds being raised for an African community devastated by wildfires.
The White Horse Team Ministry’s event in aid of its Sudan appeal attracted over 30 participants, including friends and family members.
Team rector, Reverend Rebecca Harris said it was an enjoyable evening with a good result for the appeal which throughout Lent collected for the team’s Deanery link Diocese, Maridi, where people are in desperate need of food and support after wildfires left many destitute.
“The quiz was put together by our deputy churchwarden Iain Brownlie from Westbury Leigh and with contributions from Holy Trinity Church Dilton Marsh,” Rebecca told White Horse News.
“We had seven rounds altogether with questions on history, general knowledge, a Catchphrase round, a theme tune round, TV and film, nature and the natural world and science. So, it was a very varied evening.
“The winner was Ruth Hann from Westbury Leigh who is our churchwarden at All Saints and she won a box of chocolates.”
During the interval a short video was shown, made by health workers at the hospital in Maridi which it was revealed was funded by money sent out from the Diocese of Salisbury.
Rebecca said, “They were singing a song encouraging people to stay safe, wash hands, wear a face mask etc… It was interesting to see how another culture is helping people get the message about Coronavirus health precautions.
“Our Sudan appeal has been running throughout Lent (since 17th February). So far we have raised approximately £185, some of which came in at the quiz night. So that’s a really good result!”
