AN aim to deliver the most advanced training and logistics systems to the armed forces unites the team of 35 employees at the Westbury headquarters of a UK arm of international aerospace corporation Lockheed Martin.
The training and logistics solutions department is based at the Brook Lane industrial estate and comprises a mix of engineers, programme managers, commercial and business development teams.
A spokesperson for the business said, “There is a broad range of experience and capabilities with experienced engineers, graduates, apprentices and a large number of veterans from all three services.
“The focus for the local business is supporting the British Army and Royal Air Force on a number of training systems that are located across the country and which are critical to maintain their operational effectiveness. The business also supports large scale logistics management systems that enable the forces to track all of their equipment and vehicles.
“The Westbury office is the hub of the business and where the team focuses on research and development and the delivery of already contracted programmes.”
Over the last five years the Westbury branch has been working on the development of a cutting-edge training system that provides high fidelity simulators for the army’s new AJAX vehicle. The team of engineers, which includes individuals on the Lockheed Martin UK graduate scheme, have developed a bespoke system that enables the soldiers to train in a computer-generated environment that fully replicates the actual vehicle. This system incorporates a mix of virtual reality and desktop-based computers that allow the soldiers to train as individuals and collectively as vehicle crews.
The Westbury team is also focused on a number of innovative research and development programmes, working to advance the use of virtual and augmented reality. They are using the most advanced technologies to shape the future of how training using virtual headsets and hand controls can fully immerse an individual or group into a virtual environment.
The spokesperson said, “This team is at the forefront of the advancements in training technology and push the boundaries of what can be achieved every day.”
