A HAMSTER who fell out of a second storey window in Westbury and was presumed lost, has found its way back home.
Wendy the hamster had the trip of her life as she wandered the streets and parks of Westbury for two whole weeks before a kind resident scooped up the now streetwise hamster and handed her into Garston vets in Westbury Market Place.
Wendy was transferred to Garston vets in Frome, where one of the staff took her in, to make sure she was looked after, before she was reunited with her owners.
The owner, Frankie Merola-Hooper said, “I was so surprised by this as she looks like a mouse due to her grey coat and I just assumed she wouldn’t be spotted.
“I have three kids and the two eldest (7 and 11) bought the hamster, so you can imagine how devastated they were when they lost her.
“We thought she had either died from the fall or been eaten by one of the random cats in the area. But I was talking to my friend about Wendy and she said she saw someone found a hamster on the Spotted page on Facebook and that it had been handed in to Garston’s the vets to get checked out.
“I’d like to thank the lovely stranger who took Wendy into the vets, but also Garston’s who were so good to our family. We had Wendy back just 24 hours after contacting Garston’s, so we can’t thank them enough for their hard work.”
The post on Facebook mentioned finding Wendy wandering along Alfred Street, a few streets away from her abode.
Garston’s also quickly discovered there was yet another twist to this hamster’s tale – Wendy is actually a boy!
