THE White Horse Military Show featuring a range of exciting arena displays and living history exhibitions is coming to Bratton on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st August.
The show will have a variety of displays from different time periods from World War 1 to the Gulf War, and the organiser, Richard Dalton, is hoping to attract history lovers from across the county.
The show will be set out like an army camp, complete with watch towers and gate posts, with displays from WW1, WW2, Vietnam, the Cold War and the Gulf War. There will also be a number of events from over 20 living history groups and war re-enactors, more than 50 military vehicles and a variety of stalls such as vintage wares and military kits for sale. A Battle of Britain memorial flight fly past is also a possibility.
Speaking to The White Horse News, Richard said, “I would love for people who love history to come down and see what kind of show can be put on – this isn’t the usual show where there is a line of older vehicles, we are trying to create an immersive experience where you can feel like you’ve stepped back in time and feel like you are part of history.
“I’m really not trying to make money with this show, it’s a passion project, but I am selling t-shirts at the show with the intention to put all the money back into the next show.
“I’ve tried to involve as many local organisations as I can, so we have Bratton Silver Band opening the show on Saturday and a service on Sunday morning, hosted by Rebecca Harris from All Saints’ Church.
“This is a show put on by military and vintage enthusiasts for military and vintage enthusiasts. I have been so surprised at the response I have had so far. It’s much larger than I thought I might be able to achieve in its first year.”
The main marquee will host 1940s-style singers, such as: Liberty Sisters, Dickie Lines, Blitz Time Sally, May Blossom, Vintage Songbird, and a dance floor and beer/music tent. A second marquee will host a 40s’ fashion show, as well as competitions for best dressed and best display, history talks with a ‘special guest’ and there will be a movie matinee with a film from 1941. Organisers say there will be a variety of food stands throughout the site for people to enjoy.

The event will be held on the 20th and 21st August at The Hollow, Bratton, on the B3098 between Westbury and Bratton, with parking available. Price of admission is £5 per adult and no booking is required (under 18s are free). Gates are open from 10am to 5pm.
