MEMBERS of the West Wilts Youth Sailing Association (WWYSA) took to the water last weekend to enjoy games and festivities as part of their annual fun day – and this year the theme was the coronation of King Charles III.
Club members enjoyed a variety of different activities at the event on Sunday 4th June such as the recycled boat competition, raft building and relay, as well as taking part in some remote control boating before tucking into the creative cakes that were on display at the cake competition.
“We couldn’t have asked for better weather!” said commodore, Juley Symonds. “We’ve had plenty of people out on the water so far today and everyone seems to be enjoying themselves.
“As we are a youth sailing association, my greatest joy in my role is seeing the children progress throughout the years and seeing them grow in confidence and skill. We follow the Royal Yachting Association syllabus which means many of our members have gone on into the Navy, the Olympics, and the America’s Cup, but many also have gone on to get jobs at Center Parcs and elsewhere locally.”
Club member, Verity Brewerton, commented, “There is something here for everyone – whether you have never taken to the water before or you’ve dabbled as a kid, there are plenty of opportunities to learn new skills and join in with the fun we have each week.”
The club, found at the Eden Vale Lake near Station Approach, meets three nights a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
WWYSA membership is £30 per year plus tuition fees with course fees as additional costs.
