Matravers students wow the town with performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

MATRAVERS students have been praised for their performances of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat – the latest production from the Matravers Footlights Family – which took place at the school from Tuesday 16th to Friday 19th January. 

Head of drama at Matravers, Rebecca Walker said, “Our students have worked incredibly hard to learn back-to-back choreography for this fully sung show; they have risen to the challenge and are shining vibrantly in their technicolored costumes on stage! It has been a huge honour to work with the amazing team of creatives at our brilliant school, Mrs Henderson, Mrs Sorga and Mr Young, as well as being joined by Mr Henderson as musical director this year.”

The production’s choreographer, Mrs Henderson, who also choreographed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 16 years ago at Matravers said, “Once again, it has been an absolute pleasure to work with our wonderful students who share my love for all things musical. They have proven to have an extra level of resilience this year with all the changes our Footlights Family has gone through, but their understanding and support for the project has been exemplary.”

Rebecca Walker added, “Mrs Sorga, our wonderful vocal coach, commented on the professionalism of many of our students, especially Will Slarke, playing Joseph, who arrived at September’s rehearsals completely off script.  Working with such disciplined and passionate young people is an absolute pleasure.

“We took the opportunity to fundraise for a cause very close to our hearts during show week: UCLH Glioblastoma Research Fund. Local companies and Matravers staff have been incredibly generous in donating raffle prizes; thank you!

“There are so many talented, wonderful and hard-working young people in the town and surrounding area of Westbury. We hope many of you have taken the opportunity to celebrate them, by seeing this spectacular production.”
