OVER 200 people attended a special exhibition last month at the Holy Trinity Church in Dilton Marsh which was held as part of the church’s 180th anniversary.
The exhibition commemorating ‘life events’ at the church including wedding and christenings and was held over the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May.
“The Life Events Exhibition was a wonderful success with 14 wedding dresses and outfits on display dating from 1921 to 2022, all of which had been worn by brides married in Holy Trinity,” said Lynne Vercoe, team administrator at the White Horse Team Ministry.
“The event was opened by Enid Holbrow who was married at the church in 1959 and whose wedding dress was on display. There was a display of newspaper reports and wedding photographs from all the decades since the church was opened and baptism photos and gowns were also on display along with other memorabilia and copies of marriage registers going back to 1844.
“Over 200 people came to visit including two couples married on 25th May; one couple were celebrating their 50th anniversary and another their 28th anniversary. People came from as far away as Bristol and Swindon after hearing about the event on BBC Radio Wiltshire.
“The flower arrangers had also produced some stunning arrangements around the church.
“The celebrations continue on this Saturday [8th June] with a cream tea,” added Lynne. “Holy Trinity is becoming well known for its excellent cream teas and they will be ready to welcome everyone from 3pm – 5pm.”
