More volunteers are needed following the expansion of the Leigh Park Community Fridge.
Leigh Park Community Centre is now running a community fridge five days a week between 8am and 8pm, due to a collaboration with Westbury Area Network (WAN) and Westbury Town Council.
This is in addition to the community fridge at the foodbank premises at Westbury Community Project in Eden Vale Road, which is open on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings between 10.30am and 11.30am.
In order to keep both community fridge outlets stocked, Westbury Area Network has secured more sources of surplus food. This means, as well as their usual local collections, they are now also collecting from Asda in Frome and Bookers in Trowbridge.
Due to this increase in workload, Westbury Area Network is asking for more volunteers, particularly to help with collections, but also to support the Leigh Park Community Fridge site.
A spokesperson for WAN said, “The collections from the various outlets occur at different times of the day and evening, and it would be necessary to make use of your vehicle to do this, with mileage being paid.
“Typically, a collection will take between half an hour and an hour, depending on the location. Because the collections are at different times of the day, someone who works but would like to volunteer could find a collection time that suits them.”
