REMEMBRANCE Sunday may take place once a year, but the Westbury branch of the Royal British Legion is active all year round.
The branch is inviting new members to join them as they both raise money for the legion and enjoy social functions together.
Eddie Bridges, president of the Westbury Branch of the Royal British Legion said, “We fundraise all throughout the year when we get the opportunity, and we also have a quarterly Sunday lunch at venues arranged by the members. We have our annual dinner as well, and we would like to organise other social events too.
“We give some money to the central fund, but a good percentage we keep to help people locally. People and their families can apply to us for help; if we’ve got the funds we’ll help, if not, we’ll pass on to the next level which might have more funds.”
Eddie would also like to convey his thanks to all who attended the Remembrance Sunday service and parade. “We would really like to thank all the people who came, and who came on Monday as well, just to mark the 11th hour.
“I think it’s wonderful that people do turn up, I’d like to thank the townspeople for their involvement and their generous support of the poppy appeal.
“It was noticed that there were a lot of ex-service people in the congregation, so I’d also welcome them to join the legion.”
