A VARIETY show, organised by Imperial Charity of Westbury to celebrate its 25th anniversary, featuring 60s icons The Bachelors and Craig Douglas, was a complete sellout.
The show was held on Saturday 23rd May at the Civic Hall Trowbridge.
The organisers say, “The show was backed by the Terry Hill Big Band who started by playing ‘American Patrol’ with the curtains closed until the last few bars of music, when the curtains opened slowly to show the audience a 28-piece band which got them a very long applause.
“The show featured 60s’ icons The Bachelors and Craig Douglas. Comedy man Garry Dorsey compered the show starting with his own style of comedy and singing (what a good voice he had).
“The first half of the show closed with Craig Douglas who had a string of hits during the 60s, including ‘Only Sixteen’, ‘When My Little Girl is Smiling’, ‘Teenager in Love’ and many more.
“Craig had to sit whilst performing as he has suffered for five years with vasculitis. Craig’s voice was superb and he was given a four minute standing ovation at the end of his act.
“After the interval and as promised, the Terry Hill Big Band, conducted by Dave Dayman-Jones, played several well known tunes to the delight of the audience. The conductor Dave, who is one of the directors of All Instruments in Westbury, can be very proud of the band that did so well, and were extremely professional.
“The Bachelors, well known throughout the 60s and 70s for such songs as ‘Diane’, ‘I Wouldn’t Trade You For The World’, ‘Remona’, ‘I Believe’ and many more, ended the show, again with a standing ovation from a very appreciative audience.”
